Lower levels of literacy and the decline in reading is a serious (national) problem. And in Frysl\u00e2n there is also considerable focus on multilingualism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Multilingualism helps raise awareness of language. It also supports the development of personal identity and fosters openness to other languages and cultures. Many initiatives designed to promote literacy, multilingualism and an interest in reading are currently underway in the province. Leeuwarden City of Literature is mapping these initiatives and is planning to launch a (complementary and unifying) international project to promote the Frisian language. Taking literature as its starting point, the project will also promote reading and multilingual literacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have already seen a direct increase in reading and participation in literary activities: as Leeuwarden City of Literature we are advertising these central literary activities to make them more visible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
